A 19-year-old man in China has been arrested after selling his 18-day-old daughter online... to pay for a motorcycle and an iPhone!
The man, referred to as ‘A Duan’, from Tong’an in Fujian Province, went on the run after the buyer reported him to police. According to Duan’s wife, the couple were struggling to make ends meet with her working a number of jobs while he spent most of his time in internet cafes. Duan sold his child for a reported US$3500.
Duan faces three years in prison, while his wife was given a suspended sentence of two and a half years after saying: “Many people in my (her) own town send their kids to other people to raise them. I really didn’t know it was illegal.”
